About the Wedge Residential Home on Hayling Island

For over 40 years, The Wedge Care Home has provided compassionate residential care in a warm, welcoming environment where residents are treated with dignity, kindness and respect. Established in 1984 by John and Monica Macey, the home began with just five residents and has thoughtfully grown over the years to accommodate 21 residents in comfortable en-suite bedrooms. Despite its growth, The Wedge has remained true to its family values, offering the personal touch and genuine care that have always been at the heart of everything we do.

Today, The Wedge continues to be family-run under the leadership of John and Monica’s daughter, Joanna Macey, a qualified Registered General Nurse who has managed the home for more than 20 years. We believe exceptional care goes beyond meeting everyday needs. It’s about creating a place where residents feel safe, comfortable and truly at home, where independence is encouraged, friendships flourish and families have complete confidence that their loved ones are receiving the highest standard of personalised care.

Led by Experience

The Wedge is managed by Joanna Macey, a qualified Registered General Nurse who has dedicated more than 20 years to leading the home. With extensive nursing experience and a hands-on approach, Joanna works closely with residents, families and the care team to ensure every individual receives compassionate, person-centred support tailored to their needs. Supporting Joanna is a dedicated team of caring professionals, many of whom have been with The Wedge for years. This continuity allows residents to build trusted relationships with familiar faces, providing reassurance, consistency and a genuine sense of belonging. Unlike many care homes, we never rely on agency staff, ensuring the high standards of care and personal attention our residents and their families have come to expect.

A Message from our Home Manager

“Making a positive difference to the lives of our residents every day is at the heart of everything we do at The Wedge. I feel incredibly proud to work alongside such a compassionate and dedicated team who genuinely care about the people they support.

Many of our team have been with us for years, allowing residents and families to build lasting relationships with familiar faces they know and trust. We’re proud to have a low staff turnover and, unlike many care homes, we never rely on agency staff, ensuring every resident receives consistent, personalised care.”

"My mother is very happy at The Wedge and my sister and I have nothing but praise for it. The management and staff are all delightful, responsive and caring and I feel completely confident that she is being well cared for. There are also activities during the week which she attends and which she finds really enjoyable."

"The Wedge is an exceptional care home: exceptional in the standard of care provided by the staff and in the loving attitude of all the staff. They genuinely loved my mother, were interested in her as a person, sought to understand her, build a real relationship with her and have fun with her. Consequently, she felt valued and worthwhile - very important at this stage of her life. She died in the home in a beautiful atmosphere of love and peace."
- Sue M
"The Wedge cared for my mother for 16 months, October 2015 - January 2017. I was struck by the sensitivity, warmth, commitment and hard work. I could not fault their care and remain deeply grateful. I strongly recommend this wonderful care home. My mother died peacefully in bed in this care home with every part of her needs attended too."
- Peter S
"My mother is resident at The Wedge. She is well looked after. The home is exceptionally clean, great food and the care she received is very caring. Mum is happy and loves the staff."
- Vivien P
"I am very pleased at the consistent, excellent service the management and carers provide for my mum. It is like family rather than being just a resident."
- Julie H
"My godmother had a psychotic episode, which is really out of character; the manager and all the staff were excellent, caring and kind and kept me fully informed at every stage. It was really hard for all staff concerned, but they have also been so lovely and caring about the whole episode."
